iPhone I/O
Stop, for a moment, and contemplate the sheer number and variety of inputs and outputs on an iPhone.
Outputs
- Screen (320x480)
- Two speakers (plus another two on the headphones)
- Vibration thingy
- Video out
Inputs
- Touch screen (that can track 5 contact points)
- Accelerometers (3 axes)
- GPS
- Camera
- Microphone (plus another one on the headphones)
- Proximity sensor
- Light sensor
- Three buttons and a switch (plus another button on the headphones)
Networking
- GSM
- Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth
- USB
Can anyone think of a device that tops that?
And yet despite all that, it can’t be used as a modem for my laptop…
True, but, on the upside, it’s clearly a case of the hardware is willing, but the software is weak. Hell, the thing could probably do IP over smoke signals if it felt like it.
Two speakers? I only count the one.
One speaker at the top (next to your ear), and one in the base, makes two.
